Aesthetic Perfection–Edmonton Show!

On Friday November 9th Edmonton was treated to another live show including Aesthetic Perfection. The tour lineup was killer, The Birthday Massacre, William Control and the boys of Aesthetic Perfection.

If you have never seen Aesthetic Perfection live, put it on your bucket list, it is simply something you must do in order to make your life complete. It is a live show like none other. Daniel Graves is one of the most charismatic and engaging performers to ever grace the stage. Pair him with the insanely talented drummer Tim Van Horn, and you have the best show you will ever experience.

Tim is a madman on drums. You watch him and your jaw will literally drop. Without any doubt, one of the most talented drummers in the music scene.

Daniel’s vocals are so versatile and dynamic that every lyric captivates you. One of the only performers I know of to sound equally as good live as on record. Daniel loves his art, and this truly shows through his performances.A few months ago Daniel released one of his fun covers that he is known for, Edmonton was lucky to get a live performance of She Drives Me Crazy. It was simply amazing, and put the original to shame.

Their set was only thirty-minutes, sad faces were all around. But, the rest of the show was great—The Birthday Massacre killed it as always. But, I was there strictly for AP, so sorry to say, but no other performance was even on the same level as the AP boys.

Daniel and Tim are in the music industry simply for the love of music, and it shows. Most artists are money hungry, and honestly, sell-outs. They enter the world of music initially pursuing their dream, then they just cop-out and remain for the money. It is obvious that AP truly loves the art of music, and that is why their music is so consistently good—it has their whole heart put into it. They are the kind of artists who live and breathe their craft. A very rare commodity in today’s music world. The highlight of our night was getting to chat with both Daniel and Tim. Offering Daniel the friendly Canadian hello of the horrific prairie fire shot, talking about his fab Freddy Krueger sweater and other random topics. How awesome is that? Such a cool feeling, knowing that just the day before you were blasting his music on your iPod and today you’re standing by him and chatting.

For those who have been to an AP show, you will certainly remember Daniel’s signature stride. He is a man of confidence, and his walk conveys this confidence. He is just simply one happy dude. When we commented to him on his walk, he stated that he was teased for it in school. So, there is a nice reminder to us all that the things we are insecure about, or were formerly teased about are most often the quirks that most people envy. Daniel has some serious confidence in his walk, it would put any top model to shame…So, for those who made fun of him for his sassy walk, they can flip to an AP song on the radio while they are on break from their dead-end job.

Tim is one cool dude. He chatted with us for a good half-an-hour about everything from music, evil hurricane Sandy to The Walking Dead. If you haven’t had the chance to yet, check out some of Tim’s art, you must it is simply amazing, most often it is dinosaurs—of course. Great show, and great night! As strange as this may sound, it’s awesome that such good people possess such great talent. It usually never works that way, usually the most talented folks are the most cocky and obnoxious, both Daniel and Tim are genuine awesome people—so it’s nice to know that people so deserving are so talented. Yeah, yeah that was lame and hokey, but it’s the truth! Makes you happy when good, down-to-earth people have their dreams come true.
