The School of Alberta Ballet is kicking off its annual international audition tour next week, where dancers ages 9 and up can audition for the School’s 2016 Professional Division Summer Intensive. Dancers entering grades 11 and 12 can also audition for the School of Alberta Ballet’s Dedicated Contemporary Dance Stream – the first of its kind in Canada.
At the auditions, aspiring professional dancers will participate in a special ballet class to be assessed on their suitability for professional dance training. Less than 200 students will be accepted to the second stage of the audition – a three-week summer program held at the School of Alberta Ballet in Calgary. Successful graduates of the summer program will have the opportunity to attend the School of Alberta Ballet’s Professional Division – a full-time dance and academic program for students in grades 7 through 12, with a dance only option for those in grades 5 and 6. The School also gives 25 full tuition boys’ scholarships annually.
“The School of Alberta Ballet is excited and delighted to be embarking on our International Audition Tour, seeking new talent from across Canada and around the globe” says Edmund Stripe, Artistic Director.
“This year we are holding auditions in most major cities across Canada, making a return visit to Tokyo and Osaka and, for the very first time in the School’s history, conducting auditions in select cities throughout Australia. This year’s audition tour will truly be a discovery of the wealth of talent on offer internationally and throughout Canada.”
