Poetry: The Indisputable Truth

poetryThe Indisputable Truth

My friend

A sister

A daughter

A cousin

A granddaughter

Gave up a life

A future

For something else

The indisputable proof

Right in front of my eyes

It was a choice

It didn’t just happen

Some twist of fate

Natural phenomenon

It was you

It was what you chose

You listened to the voice

The dark voice in your head

Damning you

Telling you

You were never enough

You wanted to have a real

Normal life

To be okay

Beyond it

You wanted to be more

Not to be anything

Always thinking

Two different things

Happiness

Nothingness

Desperate to be perfect

Searching to be alone

You gave in

To the obsessive part

The voice we all have

The voice we live long

Enough to shut out

You learn

You kill the darkness

Without killing yourself

You live past the darkness

You were supposed to live past it

You gave in

You left us

With a ghost

Your ghost

Isn’t a friend

All your greatness

Removed

Instead the selfish

The lost

The weak

All your negative traits

Remain

You won’t get the chance

To take it back

You let darkness define you

It eclipsed your light

This is what I live with

This version of you

Alive everyday

Haunting me

Yet you are already gone

From a decision

You though you were too

Damaged

Broken

Scarred

Everyone who loved you

Is now flawed

With guilt

With blame

We watched you do it

We knew

You listened to your demons

Because you chose to listen

You were already perfect

I wish you could have seen it in yourself

I hold your photo

A great life lost

A future burned out

The indisputable truth

Lies in the fact

We now celebrate

Your birthday

With markings on a stone

I remember the friend I had

The friend I loved

The friend I forgive

The friend I will forever miss

I remember you

Bright eyed and beautiful

The whole world in front of your feet

This is beautiful. I’ve often had these types of thoughts and have always thought about things from this perspective to help me through. I hope it’s ok, but I’m saving this to my phone, so I can read it when the thoughts come around again. Thank you for sharing your story, your feelings, your life. You may just save mine. 🙂

Thanks for the read.
