Dream A Little Dream by Kerstin Gier
Published: April 14th 2015
Mysterious doors with lizard-head knobs. Talking stone statues. A crazy girl with a hatchet. Yes, Liv’s dreams have been pretty weird lately. Especially the one where she’s in a graveyard at night, watching four boys conduct dark magic rituals.
The strangest part is that Liv recognizes the boys in her dream. They’re classmates from her new school in London, the school where she’s starting over because her mom has moved them to a new country (again). But what’s really scaring Liv is that the dream boys seem to know things about her in real life, things they couldn’t possibly know–unless they actually are in her dreams? Luckily, Liv never could resist a good mystery, and all four of those boys are pretty cute….
This was my first experience reading a novel by Kerstin Gier. I’ve heard nothing but high praise in the YA community for her over-the-top imaginative novels. I was very excited to be approved for a arc copy of Dream A Little Dream, (thank you Raincoast Books)
There is just an abundance of things to love about this book.
I am thrilled that this is the first entry in a trilogy. One book would not be enough time with these characters or this storyline.
Liv is such a loveable protagonist. She has sass, charisma and isn’t afraid to speak her mind. Her bold personality makes for some hilarious dialogue cleverly placed throughout a high intensity story.
Fans of YA romance and supernatural will swoon for this story. I am not a reader that is drawn in by romance, and even I admit the ‘love story’ is enjoyable and strong enough in itself to draw the reader into the book. My favourite components were the supernatural elements of course.
Gier’s take on collective dreaming was intriguing and executed flawlessly. Gier has crafted such a brilliant, and believable world. Her characters are both flawed and fabulous! I cannot praise this story enough.
Now to wait patiently for the next entry….Until then? I will be diving into Gier’s catalogue of writing!
