Poetry: Legacy

poetryLegacy

There are so many choices in life.

In life you are the captain of your own ship.

You direct your choices.

The only decision we have no control over.

Is who is our family.

The legacy of our name.

Shaped by those who came before us.

Part of our soul.

Our very core is shaped by our legacy.

Traits bonded and built.

By ancestors who lived rich lives before us.

Ancestors who were sinners.

Relatives who sought redemption.

Families leave legacies.

Both good and bad.

You cannot choose the baggage they pass down to us.

We are the ones.

Who decide.

Whether to take the good or the bad.

We decide.

To be the sinners or the saints.
